Early Diagnosis for MCI

Early Diagnosis for Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) (40 yrs onwards)

If you find yourself being forgetful, missing appointments and losing things, you may experience early sign of dementia, or it may be simply due to stress or normal ageing. In order to determine if your memory problem is related to dementia or not, you will need a neuropsychological assessment.

Isolated memory decline beyond that expected with normal ageing is a key feature for characterising mild cognitive impairment (MCI). MCI is highly predictive for subsequent decline to the state of early dementia that is due to Alzheimer's disease.

Therefore, early identification of MCI allows early intervention that can potentially slow down the progression of dementia. Neuropsychological tests are sensitive measures for identifying MCI and early stage of dementia.

The purposes of early diagnosis are:

  1. to differentiate abnormal memory decline from normal age-related memory difficulty

  2. to identify MCI at earlier time

  3. for early intervention to slow down the progressive decline of cognitive functions

Service fee: HK$9,000
